To earn this certification, the candidate must pass one prerequisite exam, i.e. the Microsoft exam 70-536 (TS: Microsoft .NET Framework, Application Development Foundation) and one required exam, i.e. the Microsoft exam 70-503 (TS: Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 – Windows Communication Foundation Application Development). Following is the description of the two exams:
- Prerequisite Exam: The Microsoft exam 70-536: TS: Microsoft .NET Framework, Application Development Foundation is designed specifically to measure a candidate’s knowledge of .NET development fundamentals. It is not tied to a particular version of .NET. This exam is available in English, French, German, Japanese, and Chinese (Simplified).
The candidates acquiring this exam must have at least two to three years of experience in developing Web-based, Windows-based, or distributed applications by using the Microsoft .NET Framework with 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, or 3.5 versions. Candidates should also have a working and a sound knowledge of Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 or Visual Studio 2008.
There can be two variations to pass this exam. If a candidate has already earned the credentials of being a .NET 2.0 developer, he does not need to learn .NET 3.5 in order to pass this exam. Conversely, if a candidate is a .NET 3.5 developer, he does not need to review .NET 2.0 in order to pass the exam.
- Required Exam: The Microsoft exam 70-503: TS: Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 – Windows Communication Foundation Application Development is designed specifically to measure a candidate’s knowledge of developing distributed applications by using Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 and Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5. The candidate pursuing this exam should have at least one year experience developing distributed applications by using technologies such as XML Web services, .NET Remoting, and Windows enterprise services. He should also have a sound knowledge about Visual Studio 2008 and should use the Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) technology, which includes the following path:
- A sound knowledge about the Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) technology in the context of the .NET Framework 3.5 platform.
- A working experience in supporting Web services specifications standards.
- A working experience in creating service model elements.
- A working knowledge in integrating WCF services with Windows enterprise services such as Message Queuing (MSMQ) and COM+.
- A good experience of configuring and deploying WCF applications.
